Our team is the Malibu community- young families, scout troops, teens, college students, and individuals valuing a sense of service and connection. Together we cook, make decorations, assemble gift bags, cut hair, organize a clothing drive, and serve food on Thanksgiving day.
The Malibu Community Thanksgiving Dinner was started in 1997, inspired by Ronn Hayes, one of the founders of the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, who saw the need to provide a Thanksgiving meal. Diane Malecha and Janet Ettenger came together to organize this effort, and since great actions follow great ideas, food and volunteers just showed up, and continue to do so year after year!
No matter fire or rain or Covid, for the past 28 years the Malibu community has come together to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for Labor Exchange families and all others wanting a home-cooked holiday meal. This year, we are excited to be back in person - sharing food, music, bags of clothing, personal care items, and so much more!
